Private by design. Here’s the detail.

No accounts, no ads, nothing to hand over. This page says exactly what happens to your information, and when it leaves your phone. Last updated 26 October 2026.

The Short Version

  • There are no accounts, for you or anyone you split with. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • Your Quick Bills and events live on your iPhone.
  • A receipt photo leaves your phone only if you use cloud reading (the default). Choose on-device reading and it never does.
  • When you share a bill, the items, claims and the names people type sit on our share server while it’s shared.
  • We never see anyone’s bank login. There are no ads, in the app or here. This website counts visits anonymously, and uses cookies only if you allow them.

What Stays on Your Phone

Your Quick Bills, events, receipts, the people in them, repeating costs and your settings are stored on your iPhone, in the app. We don’t have a copy. If you delete the app, they’re gone.

Reading a Receipt

Cloud reading (the default)

The photo is sent to our reader, which uses Google’s Gemini to read the items and prices, then sends the result back to your phone. It’s used only to read that receipt.

On-device reading

Choose it in the app and the receipt is read on your iPhone. The photo never leaves your phone, and it works offline.

Categories

To sort a bill into a spending category, the app may send the item names (never the photo, prices or people) to be categorised.

Sharing a Bill

When you share a bill by link or Find Nearby, the bill (venue, items and prices), the names people type when they claim, and what each person claimed are kept on our share server so everyone sees the same thing live. Friends claiming from a link use a web page; they don’t need the app or an account.

That shared copy is there only while the bill is shared. The copy on your phone is yours.

Paying Each Other

Pay links open Monzo or PayPal with the amount filled in; the payment happens in their app, not ours. If you add bank details so friends can pay you, you type them in, and they’re shown only to people who joined your shared bill. We never see or store anyone’s bank login.

Pro and Payments to Us

Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no card details, only confirmation that Pro is active on your Apple ID.

This Website

This site counts visits so we can see what’s working. Everyone is counted anonymously, with nothing stored on your device. If you allow them, cookies also let us see return visits and how people move around the site. There are no ad or third-party tracking scripts.

What’s counted

A page being viewed, a click from one of our pages to another, an App Store button coming into view or being clicked, and a click on our email address or social links. With each, we note the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer), its operating system and browser by name only (for example iOS and Safari, never versions or models), whether you’re in the UK, and broadly where the visit came from: a search engine, a social network by name, or another site, never the page itself. It never includes the address you typed, a search, or anything you entered. On this page and the terms, only the view is counted.

Without cookies

Nothing is stored on your device. Every count gets a random label that’s never used again and is marked only with the hour it happened, so nothing links one count to another: we can’t tell who you are, whether you’ve been before, or which pages one person read.

With cookies

If you choose Allow, we keep a random ID in a cookie (tas_id, for 13 months) and another for your current visit (tas_sid, for 30 minutes), and your counts carry them. That lets us see that the same browser came back, or went from the Pro page to the App Store. The IDs are random: they aren’t your name, email or IP address, and they aren’t linked to the app. Your answer is kept in a third cookie (tas_consent, for 13 months) so we don’t ask again.

You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page. Choosing No thanks deletes the IDs.

Where it goes

Counts go to our own server first. It notes the operating system and browser, drops your IP address and the rest of your browser’s details, and passes what’s left to PostHog, our analytics provider, in the EU. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, nothing is counted and we don’t ask about cookies. Like any website, our host, Cloudflare, receives your connection, including your IP address, to send you the page; that isn’t used for counting.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR) you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). Because there are no accounts, most of what the app holds is on your own phone; for a shared bill, ask whoever shared it to stop sharing, or write to us.

Changes and Contact

If anything here changes, for example if the app adds anonymous usage statistics, we’ll update this page before it ships and change the date at the top.
